We stayed overnight at this Harvest Host site nearly 4 years ago on June 19, 2022, taking the tour with several other campers. Matthew’s above-ground and under-ground dreams were very grand. The missile silo that we encountered was a real fixer-upper to turn into a desirable B&B. There are other YouTube videos showing the finished product. We forged ahead with our own video showing what Matthew had to contend with 4 years ago in order to realize his dream.
We travel through rolling prairies of central Kansas on I-70, headed to our Harvest Host overnight stop, a decommissioned Atlas intercontinental nuclear ballistic missile site.
We get greetings from Matthew Fulkerson & Buddy, the Missile Silo dog. I found my first missile base when I was 10 years old hiking through Kansas and came across this paved road in the middle of nowhere. High security, chain link fence, barbed wire on top, all that. The place looked abandoned, the gate was open. I followed the road, so I saw the personnel entrance door. I tried the handle and it opened.
Meet the owner the next day, gave me a tour and found this place completely abandoned and flooded full of water. He drained out over a million gallons of water and started fixing up the former launch control center.
The top floor was nothing but a shell where the Missileers used to live.
bunk beds, utility closet, hot water heater and a sink, shower, 2 toilets, a urinal and a sink, kitchen and a dining area.
The original launch control desk, with the original rotary phone.
Green paint everywhere, studies show the color most soothing and calming on people to reduce stress. You see this color scheme in a lot of military facilities, hospitals and even schools (gas chambers?).
In June of 2022, Matthew’s dreams to turn the silo into a B&B were big, taking many years, in our estimation. So today, nearly 4 years later, I looked up his Harvest Hosts site. It’s amazing to see how much was accomplished for this gentleman and his wild ideas. Harvest Host members can camp upstairs and tour the innards or reserve accommodations down below.
Great job, Matthew, we toast you and your dream come true.

Atlas Ad Astra, a Missile Silo Adventure Resort

‘Discover RV Camping like never before on a 24-acre former missile silo site nestled in rolling prairie. Explore an underground Atlas F complex on a one-hour historical tour led by your host, then unwind under expansive horizons.’
Matthew Fulkerson and Buddy & Bing (the Missile Silo Dogs) own a decommissioned Atlas F missile silo, once a weapon of mass destruction housed here. They transformed this former military structure into a B&B and a site of living history.
The Titan I missile was the largest of the first-generation ICBMs. The Atlas launch sites were active between 1961 and 1965.
Ad Astra means ‘to the stars’ indicative of the range of the Titan I.
