A major winter storm is taking shape across the central, southern, and eastern United States for the upcoming weekend. Central Ohio could see several inches of snow this weekend from the incoming storm.
The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Watch for central Ohio counties, as well as several states from New Mexico and Texas to the Carolinas on up into the northeast.
Things to know:
Much of the Columbus, Ohio area could see between 6 and 12 inches of snow.
A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for central Ohio counties. It's set to go into effect at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Snow will fall in the afternoon/evening Saturday through Sunday night
The further south you go, the greater the impacts
Snow and wind will make for difficult travel conditions
How much snow is expected in Columbus, Ohio?
New models released Thursday show that Columbus and most of the surrounding suburbs and counties could see at least 6 to 10" of snow from Saturday evening into Monday morning. Northern counties like Crawford and Hardin could see 2 to 6", while southern counties like Ross and Pickaway may see at least 12" of snow.
The earliest time central Ohio could begin seeing light snow is around 4 p.m. Saturday. While the timing is still fluid, anticipate steady, heavier snowfall leading up to Saturday evening and overnight.
This has the potential to be one of, if not the biggest, snowfall we get this season, and we are working to analyze all the data to get you the most accurate forecast as soon as confidence allows.
