A major winter storm is taking shape across the central, southern, and eastern United States for the upcoming weekend. Central Ohio could see several inches of snow this weekend from the incoming storm.
The National Weather Service has already issued a Winter Storm Warning for central Ohio counties, and a Winter Storm Watch for several states from New Mexico and Texas to the Carolinas on up into the northeast.
How much snow is expected in Columbus, Ohio?
The 10 Weather Impact team has updated the snowfall forecast to bring some of the heavier snowfall further north. Once all is said and done by Monday morning, 8-12" of snow appears likely for the Columbus metro. Overall, expected 6-12"+ across central and southern Ohio, with some of the highest totals south of I-70.
The earliest time central Ohio could begin seeing light snow is around 4 p.m. Saturday. While the timing is still fluid, anticipate steady, heavier snowfall leading up to Saturday evening and overnight.
This has the potential to be one of, if not the biggest, snowfall we get this season, and we are working to analyze all the data to get you the most accurate forecast as soon as confidence allows.
How cold will it be this weekend?
In addition to the snow, temperatures are expected to plunge well into the single digits as early as Friday evening. This drop in temperatures will again bring widespread and prolonged subzero wind chills to most of central Ohio.
Wind chills from Friday night into early Saturday could be between -5 to -15.
