February marks African Heritage Month in Nova Scotia - an important time to recognize and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of African Nova Scotians and people of African descent across the province. It is also a time to reflect on the living legacy of African Nova Scotian communities and their ongoing impact on social, cultural, and civic life.
The 2026 theme, Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power, and Progress, highlights the strength that comes from unity, the clarity of shared purpose, and the commitment required to create lasting prosperity and progress for current and future generations. The theme also aligns with the Second International Decade for People of African Descent (2025–2034), a United Nations initiative focused on advancing recognition, justice, and development.
