The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) proudly kicks off Black History Month 2026 with a mid-month celebration honoring this year’s national theme—celebrating 100 years of Black history, culture, and impact.
This historic milestone commemorates the centennial of Negro History Week, founded in 1926 by historian and scholar Dr. Carter G. Woodson, widely known as the Father of Black History. His vision laid the foundation for what would later become Black History Month, ensuring the achievements and contributions of Black Americans are recognized, studied, and celebrated.
The ceremony brings together leaders, employees, and community voices to reflect on the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future through storytelling, recognition, and cultural pride. Join us as NJDOL honors Dr. Woodson’s legacy, uplifts Black excellence, and reaffirms our commitment to equity, inclusion, and opportunity for all.
