(8 May 2020) Some 260 Chileans arrived home on Friday after being stranded in various countries throughout Asia and Oceania because of the coronavirus worldwide pandemic.
Upon entering the country, the arriving Chileans were processed through a number of stations to be monitored for health conditions at Santiago International Airport, where their temperatures were checked among other things.
Chile's Deputy Health Secretary, Paula Daza, confirmed that all arriving passengers will need to undergo a 14 day period of quarantine as a precaution against the virus.
Chile has confirmed 25,972 cases of the coronavirus and 294 deaths, according the John Hopkins University.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
