The move comes weeks after both sides agreed to reduce tariffs to 18% from 50%. However, after the United States Supreme Court struck down earlier Trump tariffs, the administration introduced new duties, first at 10%, then warning of 15%, and now targeting Indian solar products with steep penalties.

The U.S. says India unfairly subsidised its solar sector, undercutting American manufacturers.

India’s solar exports to the U.S. had surged to nearly 792 million dollars, driven partly by Chinese firms shifting production to bypass U.S. barriers.

Now, Indian manufacturers face oversupply and restricted access to their biggest export market.

A final decision in the case is expected by July 2026.
