Albert Street Bakery in Inglewood, Queensland.

Описание: Today’s pie stop was the Elwood Street Bakery in Inglewood, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise for a small town on a public holiday. They were open, friendly, and had a solid lineup of pies. I grabbed the mushroom mince—exactly as advertised—and Sara went for a pepper steak. I had my eye on their slow-cooked brisket with Bundy rum, but unfortunately, there were none. One for next time.

The pie itself looked promising: firm base and sides, lightly flaky top, and nicely warm in the hand. The mince was a bit coarse but acceptable. The gravy was not thick, but again acceptable. The pastry was decent, not overly crunchy, and enough mushrooms to be called a mushroom pie. Overall, better than a lot of the pies we’ve tried lately, so I settled on a generous three.

Sara’s pepper steak pie did better. Same gravy consistency, but hers actually had a proper amount of steak, tender and well-peppered—maybe not quite peppery enough for her, but probably spot-on for most people. She liked the softer, buttery pastry and scored hers a four.

We had our pie about 50 metres down the road in a tidy little park beside the Anzac memorial, complete with shelters, tables, toilets, and the local bats for lunchtime entertainment.
