Описание: Maharashtra is voting today for 29 municipal corporations after a gap of six years, with the spotlight firmly on Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

The BJP-led Mahayuti is locked in a keen contest with the united Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, who have come together after two decades in a bid to consolidate the Marathi vote.

Polling began at 7.30 am and will conclude at 5.30 pm, with results to be declared on January 16. By 9.30 am, voter turnout in Mumbai stood at 7.12%, according to the State Election Commission.

Celebrities and political heavyweights including Akshay Kumar, Sachin Tendulkar, Hema Malini, Sunil Shetty, Mohan Bhagwat, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal were seen casting their votes.

With an annual budget of over ₹74,400 crore, the BMC remains India’s richest civic body, making this election a crucial political battle ahead of future state and national contests.
