Dexys Live In '82: "Until I Believe In My Soul"

Описание: This week it was announced that Dexys will be releasing a re-worked version of "Too Rye Ay" to mark the album's 40th anniversary next year - but, in truth, they've been re-working that album's material since... well, 1982!

"Until I Believe In My Soul" is one of the key songs in the history of Dexys Midnight Runners - a centre-piece of "The Projected Passion Revue", one of the stand-out tracks on "Too Rye Ay"... and, with the benefit of hindsight, the starting point for "Don't Stand Me Down".

The conversational style which set Dexys' 1985 album apart from the rest effectively started on "The Bridge" performances of this song. From the moment Kevin Rowland interrupts his singing about burning to talk to Billy, the Dexys story had taken a big step in a whole new direction. This was undoubtedly the blue-print for all that followed... the extended dialogues of B-Side "Reminisce Part One"... the intricate musical inter-play over simple chord structures of songs like "One Of Those Things"... the lyrical themes of "that burning problem" central to "The Occasional Flicker".

While none of the remixes featured on the forthcoming re-release of "Too Rye Ay" will represent as extreme a make-over of the original recordings as this does, it will be interesting to see how Dexys embellish upon their re-workings when it comes to next year's tour which has been scheduled to promote the album release!
