The design is intended exclusively for mirrorless camera systems, the lens is both robust—an attribute essential for the Sports line of lensesーand compact and lightweight (2.1Kg).

Built quality: Built like a ‘Tank’ The lens body uses parts made of aluminium and TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), where they are most suitable. TSC is a type of polycarbonate with a thermal expansion rate similar to that of aluminium, ensuring the lens behaves consistently at different temperatures.

Cylindrical sturdy lens hood with mounting screw is really rugged also has a soft outer cover that also functions like the lens cap

Dust and splash-proof: This lens features a highly effective dust and splash resistant structure with special sealing at the mount connection, manual focus ring, zoom ring, and cover connection, allowing you to work in all weather conditions.
A water and oil repellent coating applied to the front element, gives you a peace of mind even in a harsh shooting environment.

Lens construction: 25 elements in15 groups
9-blade rounded diaphragm for a smooth round shaped bokeh effects in the out of focus areas. This looks beautiful, especially a nature shot like this.

Focus Mode Switch has AF and MF

Auto Focus:
The AF is super-fast and accurate.
The low light AF performance is too good.
The AF tracking is simply superb. The lens picks up the subject from a background with patterns and focuses it perfectly.
The AF shift from the near and far subject is fast and accurate.
Manual focus ring is very smooth and does a very good job.
Minimum focusing distance varies according to zoom position, 58cm (23 inches) at 150mm and 280cm (110 inches) at 600mm.
Has a good macro feature @ 150mm, the lens focuses at 23in .

The lens features a Dual Action Zoom, which supports both pull and push straight zoom and ring zoom, allowing you to change the angle of view in a quick and intuitive way. The zooming action is smooth and seamless.
The zoom ring has a taper collar that facilities comfortable usage by all irrespective of the hand size.
Zoom Torque switch: In addition, there is also a newly incorporated Zoom Torque switch, (L for lock, T for tight and S for smooth).

Optical stabilisation:
OS switch for Lens-based image stabilization is available with the OS-2 option. The lens has 4 stop OS.
Sharpness @150mm and various apertures give a real image, At 600mm the image is a little soft at the edges – for all practical purposes, it scores well.
Images are uniformly sharp from the centre to the edges of the frame.

The background separation is too good.
The lens delivers very good contrast images with clear edge definition in all lighting conditions.

Chromatic aberrations are slightly there in a very few shots while shooting against the light.
The rear element is deep inside, so the lens can be used with 1.4X or 2X tele converters. Teleconverters for E mount lenses are not yet available from Sigma.
The tripod socket with 90° click stops, made with a magnesium alloy that is both lightweight and tough, is incorporated to ensure easier changes of shooting position from vertical to horizontal and vice versa. It can be attached directly to an Arca Swiss type clamp.
