“Sir Bertrand: A Fragment” was published in 1773 in the collection “Miscellaneous Pieces, in Prose” by the sibling pair Anna Laetitia and John Aikin, and this particular piece is thought to have been Anna’s composition. Anna Laetitia took the surname Barbauld after her marriage to Rochemont Barbauld in 1774, the year following this story’s publication. This work is in the public domain.
