The Babcock Ranch Preserve in Punta Gorda, Florida is a permanently protected expanse of cypress swamps, marshlands, prairies and pine forests that provide refuge for abundant wildlife species. The Telegraph Swamp, a prominent feature of the Preserve, is vital to the region’s water supply and connected ecosystems including the Everglades, Caloosahatchee River, and Charlotte Harbor. After purchase by Edward Babcock in 1914, these lands sold to the state nearly a century later. This transaction sparked a new era designed to maintain a rich history of agriculture, public recreation, and ecotourism… legacies now managed through the leadership of Tarpon Blue Land and Resource Management.
