In the afternoon of Friday the 13th of October 2023, at around 4:40PM, a heat kink damaged the track near Mt Lawley Station and resulted in a sudden closure of the Midland and Airport Lines between Claisebrook and Bayswater. This resulted in trains terminating at Bayswater Station just a mere few days after opening, and utilising the Bayswater sidings. Train replacement buses were deployed to operate 901 and 902 services (including NH TP1724 with Jay driving), although the train replacement bus stops at Bayswater are so far from the station, so masses of people had to walk all the way down King William Street. The kink was not repaired until 6:30AM the following morning, so services were cancelled for the rest of the evening, and I believe the trains had to be stored at the High Wycombe stow roads overnight (even maybe the A-series).
In this video we explore all of the above aspects of this snap closure, including a lot more clips of terminating trains at the new Bayswater Station with the crowds of people using it, since I just happened to be nearby again, as I typically am on a Friday evening (when most disruptions seem to happen).
