In this video I’ll show you the single most effective thing that stopped me from doom scrolling YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and all the other social media platforms on my laptop. This is a short python script that modifies your /etc/hosts file (works with macOS and Linux) to redirect social media to an IP address that does not go anywhere (a local host address). I added three options to the script 1.) Block social media websites 2.) Unblock social media websites 3.) Unblock for 20 minutes. The third option is my favorite and lets you use social media in moderation for a decent time frame before your access is reblocked. It's a great way to not have to go cold turkey but still limit your exposure to these addicting websites.
