110km Drakensberg Northern Traverse | 4 Days Alone

Описание: In May 2025, I completed a 110km Northern Drakensberg Traverse in 4 days.
This is my experience crossing one of South Africa’s toughest mountain routes.


ROUTE:
DAY 1 - Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge to Ifidi Cave via the beacan buttness gully in the Northern Drakensberg (21km)
Day 2 - Ifidi Cave to Unnamed overhang near Cockade pass in the Cathedral peak area of the drakensberg (42km)
Day 3 - Unnamed overhand to Keith Bush Camp in the Central Drakensberg (33km)
Day 4 - Keith Bush Camp to Monks Cowl (14km)


MY STORY: A Drakensberg northern traverse is always challenging logistically, so when i was given the opportunity to be dropped off on a Thursday at Witsieshoek mountain lodge and then picked up on the Sunday at Monks cowl in the central Drakensberg near Champaign castle i could not say no.

It was not part of my plan to make a video but after a year of reminiscing about this trip I've decided to compose the small amount of photos and videos i did capture into a short video.

This TRAVERSE was my first ever and only my 2nd time wild camping in the Drakensberg mountains. A year later and the list of gear i have acquired continues to grow, i now have an action camera and I'm busy planning my next traverse and this time its going to be even bigger.

In 2027 i plan on doing a SOLO Drakensberg grand traverse from NORTH to SOUTH in less than a week. Thats 220km and 10000m elevation in 7 days with no support completely alone on the Drakenberg escarpment.
