Curated by Gabriele Giuseppe Salmi and commissioned by Joseph Ibongo Gilungula, the artists Congo brought to the Biennale are notable Congolese figures: Aimé Mpane, Eddy Ekete, Steve Bandoma, Jean Katambayi Mukendi, Kongo Astronauts, Cedrick Sungo, and Eddy Kamuanga.
Through diverse mediums, these artists engage in a critical discourse on the restitution of essential materials and the environmental devastation caused by the mining industry.
Instead of exhibiting their artworks in the pavilion, Congolese artists have chosen to express their art through protest performances in the Biennale area, making their voices resonate in a potent act of dissent. This approach underscores the metaphor of having and not having, of being visible and invisible.
