Описание: The Edworthy Falls hike is a stunning adventure in Alberta's Kananaskis Country. It takes you through the Elbow Lake Trail, offering breathtaking views of alpine meadows, snowy mountains, and the turquoise plunge pool of the falls. Canadian Rockies Hike.

July 5/2023 Summer Hike, Alberta Canada

Today we are in the Highwood Pass area in Kananaskis Country. We will be hiking up to Edworthy Falls via Elbow Lake. This hike has a little bit of everything. The trail is 10.7 kilometers out and back with an elevation gain of 291 meters.

This hike starts at the Elbow Lake Trailhead. There is a lot of parking here as they expanded the parking lot here last year, but I would still get there early to ensure you get a spot. You will have no time to warm up your legs as they get you going straight up at the very beginning. Around .7k there will be a nice bench to sit on and take a quick rest. As you climb there will be a couple sections that the trail will ease up, only for a short time though. Soon, at one of the level portions the trail will open up and you will start to get some mountain views to your left and to your right. Then back into the trees and some more elevation gain. Around 1.4k you will reach the highest spot on this trail, 2105 meters (6910 Feet). At 1.6k you will arrive at Elbow Lake, and the elevation gain was 143 meters (469 feet). This is a beautiful little lake. If you go right at the lake, you will head into the backcountry campground and the trail will continue up to Rae Glacier. Today we are going left at the lake and proceed up the trail. As you walk along the lake you will be treated to stunning views of the lake with towering mountains behind it. The water in the lake is so clear, it’s like looking through glass. Just over 2.2k you will reach the end of the lake and you will take the trail to your left. Now you will be in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. If you look back, you can see Rae Glacier from a distance. The trail is very wide here, it’s like walking down a road. Soon the trail will open up, and the views just keep getting better and better. Then the trail will take you back into the trees and the trail gets a little rocky in sections. Just left of the trail you will come across a little creek. At one point a little creek will cross the trail, and to your left will be a mini waterfall. I call it Baby Edworthy Falls. The trail will continue in the trees for a while. Once again, the trail will open up and you will have stunning views of the mountains all around you. Here I decided to go left just off the trail towards the creek to a small waterfall. At 4.2k I decided to take a little break here overlooking the creek and waterfall. As you continue you won’t know which way to look as the views in all directions were stunning. The trail gets a little rocky again. At 5.2k you will see some rocks stacked on the left side of the trail. You will want to go left here to get to Edworthy Falls. You will be able to hear the falls and soon you will have a great view of the falls from above. The trail down to the falls is very steep, but if you take it slow you should be OK. At 5.4k you will arrive at the falls. I enjoyed my lunch and beer at the falls. I had the whole place to myself for about a half hour.

This hike has a little bit of everything on it. A beautiful lake, Elbow Lake, views of Rae Glacier, 360 mountain views, open meadows, a nice little creek and of course Edworthy Falls. I would say minimal effect and maximum reward. There were quite a few people on the trail but we were all spread out. I highly recommend this hike.
