This is the first video of my Kempense Veken project. A "Kempense Veken" is a traditional old style of gate used for farms and fields. The style I'll be making is the "laying tree" style. The gate is made from a downed tree, idealy with its rootball still attached. The tree is balanced on a central pivoting post with the gate on one end and the rootball or other counterbalance on the other end. In this first video I explain what I will be doing, select the timber I'll be using, lay out the gate position on the field and start with the debarking using my recently restored debarking tool.
