Fishing in Cabo
Another sun-splashed morning at Land’s End with Toby Nunn of MarVida Sportfishing—same water, same magic. Cabo turned on a little later this year, but once it fired… it fired.
What’s biting right now
Billfish, year-round: striped, blue, black marlin + sailfish (yes, within sight of the Arch)
Tuna: a standout late spring / early summer—phenomenal action and sashimi-grade fillets
Wahoo: Toby’s pick for best-tasting fish in the ocean
Dorado (Mahi Mahi): lighter this year, still showing
Wild encounters
Orcas spotted ~20 miles up the coast near Rancho San Cristóbal, tracking mobula rays and Ridley turtle nesting—aka “Turtle McNuggets.”
Whales all year: humpbacks (Dec–Feb) teaching calves in calm coves, plus grays, minkes, and the occasional blue whale—like a living submarine surfacing beside the boat.
Why Cabo is different
Fly in from ~25 major U.S. cities in under three hours.
World-class fishery minutes from the marina—less time running, more time fishing.
The only destination where you can realistically chase billfish all year.
Tournament season (Oct–Nov)
Pelagic Triple Crown, Bisbee’s East Cape, Los Cabos Billfish—and the headliners:
Los Cabos Offshore (“Little Bisbee”)
Bisbee’s Black & Blue (“Big Bisbee”)
Millions in jackpots; locals have taken top honors—big wins that stay in Cabo.
New to fishing? Perfect.
Beginner-friendly half-day charters deliver whales, turtles, sea lions—and often your first billfish bite. Six hours here can out-fish twelve almost anywhere else.
