Sooo yeah...Episode 6, huh?😳😶🤯😫😭 After the reception of my last AMV, I decided to try my hand at another one, only a bit more angsty (ok, that’s a lie. A BILLION times more angsty). As soon as I heard this beautiful song, I knew I had to made a Digital Circus AMV out of it; the lyrics capture the theme of the show and the characters so perfectly. Though I wanted to pay homage to each of the characters’ respective arcs, so I had to wait til Jax’s episode. I can’t say I’m disappointed, as Goose delivered as always. One thing I noticed is that each episode centers around certain themes:
-Episode 2 is about self-worth and fear of abandonment.
-Episode 3 is about self-image, coping with loss, and the value of support systems.
-Episode 4 is about depression and self-esteem.
-Episode 5 is about masking and expressing negative emotions in a healthy manner.
-Episode 6 is about the importance of healthy relationships, trust, dealing with grief, and self-love.
Though each episode has a different tone/moral, I feel like at its core, all the circus members are dealing with the same issue: there’s a part of themselves they don’t like, or even hate. I believe they all truly care about each other deep down (though Jax has yet to admit that), yet they’re struggling because they’re still learning how to love themselves. And that’s why I feel that this song fits this series perfectly: no matter how worthless or inferior someone else or you yourself might tell you you are, at the end of the day, we all have one thing in common: we’re all still human. We’re all flawed. We’ve all experienced some form of suffering at some point in our lives. We all have our stories. We’re all broken people. We’re ALL deserving of love. Simply for BEING a human being. Simply for EXISTING. No matter what others say or try to make you feel otherwise.
If I had to describe this series in one word, I know other people would probably choose a different one. Some might say “funny.” Others might say “dark.” still others might say “sad.” Yet for me, an entirely different term comes to mind: empathy. And there’s one character who’s demonstrated that concept time and time again: Pomni. I genuinely believe that although Pomni herself isn’t perfect, the circus members are slowly becoming better versions of themselves since she arrived. She does her best to be a good listener, even if she herself doesn’t completely understand what the other is going though. Relationships are starting to mend and become stronger, and the characters’ perspectives on themselves have begun shifting for the better as well. That’s because Pomni is such a genuinely compassionate person. She herself is flawed, but she refuses to let herself or the others forget about their humanity. I think the ending of Episode 6 displays this perfectly. Many people would just give up on Jax, especially after he so adamantly begged Pomni to leave him alone and the horrific, hurtful things he said to her. But ultimately, Pomni knows that Jax is just as human as her. He’s not incapable of human emotion, and she realizes that he’s suffering just as much, if not more so, than the rest of them, even though he so desperately tries to keep his pain hidden. The way she looks at him as he walks away after their argument proves that she still cares for him. There’s no hatred or resentment in her eyes, although she has every right to feel that way, especially after how he pushed her away. She just pities him. She’s worried about him, because she knows how hurt and lonely Jax is, even if he refuses to admit that to himself. Even after he basically ended their friendship, Pomni is concerned about him, otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten up to check on him when he left for the washroom. THAT’S what unconditional love looks like: looking past all someone’s flaws and cruelty and realizing they’re just as human and vulnerable to suffering as you are. And THAT’S why I love Pomni as a character.
I hope ya’ll enjoy sobbing your eyes out with this one. I’m not sorry.😇🙃😉😫😭
