When we talk about grace, we often talk about getting a fresh start. The sins of our past are forgiven, and we can move forward. But often, that still leaves the burden of earning God's favor on us. We live as if though grace just gives us another chance to do better in the future. The problem is that even with an infinite number of second chances, we'll never get things right.
Grace is indeed a fresh start, but it's even more than that. By his grace, God not only wipes our slate clean, he also covers us with the righteousness of Christ so that we are already counted holy and righteous in his sight. Because of God's grace, we can rest from trying to earn his favor and live boldly before him in thankfulness.
