A set of variations on the classic tune "O Tannenbaum", also known as the Christmas carol "O Christmas Tree", the socialist song "The Red Flag", and the state songs of Maryland and Iowa.
Following the presentation of the theme, the first variation is a march in 4/4 time, a slightly more martial version of the theme but without too much change. The second variation is a dark funeral march in the relative minor. the third variation is a simplistic, hymn-like rendition of the original, in 3/4 again. And back to 4/4 and a march-like tempo is the final variation, a lively and more ornate Allegro.
(I was debating whether to upload this for Christmas or International Workers' Day, I chose the latter because "the Red Flag" is the better song)
