WWE legend Booker T suing Call of Duty Black Ops makers for ‘ripping off his G.I Bro comic book alter ego’. WRESTLING legend Booker T is suing the makers of Call of Duty, claiming they stole his likeness.
The American, whose full name is Robert Booker Tio Huffman, 53, cultivated the 1990s wrestling persona G.I. Bro.
And the character appears to have been recreated in the video game Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, which reportedly made £389million in its first weekend of sales.
Booker T has been in the business for 30 years and is not impressed about having his image appropriated for the video game.
According to the Verge, Huffman's lawsuit is based on striking similarities between G.I. Bro and the video game character Prophet.
The documents filed to a US District Court in Texas claim Activision have ripped his image straight from his wrestling persona, which was sketched in a series of comic books.
The character Prophet's appearance was changed from Black Ops 3 to Black Ops 4 - which is a prequel - and he is depicted younger and with dreadlocks.
The lawyers claim: "Booker T. created two comic books based on his character 'G. I. Bro.'
G.I Bro is a special operations action hero. Defendants published a series of multiplayer, first-person shooter games under the general title “Call of Duty..
"In 2018, Defendants released Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, a “prequel” to the prior videogame Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
"In Call of Duty: Black Ops III, one of the “specialist” characters was David “Prophet” Wilkes, who had replaced 90 per cent of his body with “cybernetics” to enhance his fighting ability.
"For the “prequel,” Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, Defendants chose to depict “Prophet” as he was before he remade himself.
"They could have drawn him any way they wanted. But they chose to steal Booker T.’s “G. I. Bro."
Makers of Pro Evolution Soccer, Konami, were stung last year after Diego Maradona took action for them using his likeness without his permission.
After coming to an agreement he has appeared as a fully-licensed player along with other legends such as Johann Cruyff, David Beckham and George Best.
