Qingdao is a stunning coastal city that beautifully marries its rich history as a former German protectorate with modern Chinese vibrancy. A streamlined two-day trip perfectly captures its two defining features: the European-style architecture nestled along the coastline and its lively identity as the beer capital of China. For a POV video, focusing the first day on historic, cinematic walking routes and the second day on local life provides an excellent narrative arc with countless stories to uncover.

Here are the essential tips for your trip:

Digital Survival & Apps

Payments: China is an almost entirely cashless society. Download Alipay and WeChat before your trip and link your international credit card. You will use these for everything from buying Tsingtao beer to riding the metro.

Internet Access: To upload your content and access platforms like YouTube, you will need a reliable VPN. Getting a travel eSIM before you land is often the easiest solution, as they usually route traffic outside the local firewall automatically.

Navigation: Western mapping apps are often blocked or have outdated information in China. Download Baidu Maps (which is in Chinese but highly accurate) or use Apple Maps, which works surprisingly well for transit and walking routes if you use an iPhone.

Filming & POV Gear

Tame the Coastal Wind: Qingdao is a breezy seaside city, especially around Zhanqiao Pier and the coastal walkways. A high-quality deadcat (wind muff) for your microphone is absolutely essential for crisp, usable audio.

Prepare for Hills: The historic old town, especially the walk up to Xiaoyushan Park, involves a lot of uneven stone steps and steep, winding streets. Wear very comfortable walking shoes and ensure your gimbal or camera rig is as lightweight as possible to prevent fatigue during long, continuous takes.

Timing the Light: The city’s famous aesthetic of "red tiles, green trees, and blue sea" looks highly saturated and vibrant under the sun but can look flat on overcast days. Try to schedule your major outdoor walking segments (like Badaguan) for the morning or late afternoon golden hour.
