The road climbs quickly here. Leaving Billings, the land opens and tightens at the same time, rising into the Beartooth Plateau. Long stretches of pavement, high elevation, and weather that changes without warning. It feels like a threshold, less like a drive and more like a crossing.

From there, the trip moves into Yellowstone. Lamar Valley is wide and quiet in a different way, shaped by distance and patience. Wildlife appears on its own terms, often at the edge of the road, often when you’re not expecting it. It’s the first time the scale of this place really settles in.

Mammoth Hot Springs feels different again. The landscape is active, layered, and still changing. Steam, terraces, and the sense that this place isn’t finished. By the end of the day, Yellowstone no longer feels distant. It feels present, and it carries the weight I expected it to.

About the Series
Still Called West is a 9-part travel vlog and documentary filmed across 17 days and 6 national parks. This series follows the road as it unfolds; from early miles and quiet towns to mountains, canyons, and places that still feel wild. The trip became a chance to visit new parks and reconnect with the part of me that fell in love with landscape photography.
