Iceland’s Natural Wonders: Stuðlagil, Hverir, Krafla & ELVES in Dimmuborgir! (Day 8)

-Day 6/7 of the Vanlife Iceland Circumnavigation Trip!

Daily adventure, life-changing views, new friends, exhaustion; all are things that describe our recent trip to Iceland as a whole. However, the specific day that you are watching includes memories summed up with words like: flooding river rapids, stinky earth , sudsy spring, hidden elves, Eurovision, and pampered party...

We woke up at Hôfðavik Campground which is located in the largest forest in Iceland, called Hallormsstaðaskógur. There is no website, but you can pay for your site upon arrival.

Stuðlagil Canyon is a popular Instagram tourist attraction, but it didn't look how we expected due to dam water! It's in Jökuldalur valley and is has fascinating columnar basalt rock formations.

Beitarhúsið Cafe was a random stop we found between Stuðlagil and Hverir. It felt like a popular local hot spot with a lot of classic Icelandic foods at an affordable price.

Hverir Geothermal Area was fun, but make sure you use the bathroom first, as there are no public restrooms and the smell can make you need one... urgently. The Viti Crater is very nearby; we found it underwhelming, but it would've been a nice hike, had we not felt sick. The Krafla Perpetual Shower is also nearby, and it's a very refreshing wash! All of the above attractions are also free and open to the public!!

Dimmuborgir Lava Field is also free and is said to be the home of real elves/gnomes! We maaay have heard some moving in the bushes!! It's got a lot of trails with little caves to explore.

The city of Húsavik is a beautiful small town, made famous by the Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams Netflix movie, Eurovision. There's whale watching (see our next video), cute shops and cafes, and our campsite was conveniently just outside of town!

Geosea Spa was so amazing with a gorgeous view of the sunset and drinks available at the swim-up bar. An adult Day Pass is 6,990 ISK ($52.30 USD), but totally worth the splurge. Check out their offerings here:
