Carl Theodor Dreyer (1889-1968) is Danish cinema's most celebrated director and is still, to this day, an inspiration to artists, filmmakers and audiences worldwide.
On the occasion of www.carlthdreyer.dk (English version www.english.carlthdreyer.dk), a comprehensive website on the filmmaker's life and work launched May 2010, the Danish Film Institute asked some prominent filmmakers about their relationship to Dreyer:
In this video James Schamus (producer on several Ang Lee films and author of "Carl Theodor Dreyer's Gertrud - The Moving Word") talks about Dreyer creating great works of art without ever being head of a movement or a new wave or dogma.
