Welcome to Episode 58 of Forest River, North Dakota!

In today’s episode, we’re back out in the fields as we officially work toward wrapping up our Year 6 Spring planting season here on the MEGA Farm. The beginning of Year 6 has been one of the busiest stretches we’ve ever had on this series. After transferring our save game over to the newest version of Forest River, we brought in Precision Farming and the Row Crop System, and that meant starting the year off the right way — dialing in our soil, balancing pH levels, and completely rethinking how we prepare our ground.

We kicked things off in Field 11, our 250-acre field, where we pulled out the massive Bourgault air seeder and laid down a full crop of Oats. Once that field was wrapped up, we moved the entire seeding operation across the map to our biggest field — the 300-acre MEGA Field that we created by merging multiple fields together. That field has now been fully seeded with Canola, another key ingredient in our pig feed mix.

To kick things off, we’ll fire up both our John Deere 9RX and 9RT tractors, each hooked up to our massive Brandt 591A field rollers. We’ll get both machines set up on Courseplay and begin rolling this entire 300-acre field to lock that seedbed in and finish this operation properly. While those tractors are rolling, I’ll hop in the pickup and head down to the south end of the field to clear out our Bourgault air seeder and semi truck.

I’ll personally be driving the John Deere 9RX 830 with the Bourgault drill back to the farmyard — this is one of the largest pieces of equipment we run on the farm, and with the size of these roads and intersections, I’d rather not leave that one to AI. Once that seeding rig is safely back at the yard and parked up, we’ll officially be done with our small grain seeding for Year 6.

Next up, we’ll head over to the 250-acre field where our two John Deere 8RT 410 tractors are waiting with our brand new John Deere DB120 48-row planters. We made a huge upgrade to these planters recently, and they’ve been absolutely flying through the acres. We’ve already got more than half of this field planted in Corn, but today the goal is to finish it completely.

I’ll set one planter up on Courseplay and jump into the second tractor myself so we can run both machines flat out and get this 250-acre Corn field wrapped up as efficiently as possible. With Precision Farming active, we’re paying close attention to fertilizer rates and soil conditions to make sure we’re setting ourselves up for the best possible yield this Fall.

Once that field is finished, we’ll only have one final field left to plant for Year 6 — the 100-acre field that surrounds the farmyard. We’ll get both DB120 planters refilled with seed and fertilizer, swing them across the road, and begin planting the final acres of Corn for the season.
