BY MIDDAY FRIDAY IT HAD YET TO START RAINING HERE IN GALVESTON.
BUT YOU CAN SEE THE IMPACT THAT IKE IS ALREADY HAVING WAVES ARE ATTACKING THIS SEAWALL.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY THE SEAWALL DOES NOT WRAP AROUND THE WHOLE ISLAND LEAVING A LARGE PORTION OPEN TO HURRICANE IKE.

THE WAVES HAVE WASHED DEBRIS OVER THE GALVESTON SEA WALL AND ONTO THE ROAD.
THE ISLAND IS UNDER A MANDATORY EVACUATION BUT NOT EVERYONE HAS LISTENED TO THE ORDER.

THE WEST SIDE OF THE ISLAND IS NOT PROTECTED AND WILL GET TROUNCED BY STORM SURGE.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS GONE SO FAR AS TO SAY THAT PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY CAN RIDE THE STORM OUT IN A ONE OR TWO STORY HOME WILL FACE CERTAIN DEATH.

THE LAST TIME A HURRICANE MADE A DIRECT HIT HERE WAS 1983 WHEN HURRICANE ALICIA KILLED 21 PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND.
GALVESTON IS ALSO HOME TO THE WORST NATURAL DISSASTER IN UNITED STATES HISTORY.
THE HURRICANE OF 1900 KILLED MORE 6,000 PEOPLE.
NOW IKE IS HOURS AWAY FROM GETTING IT'S CHANCE TO SMACK THE ISLAND.
