GUMBALKAN 2025 DAY 6 | IT'S A MADNESS! 🇱🇻

Описание: Latvia delivers: obstacle courses in the rain, a convoy of Volvos, and Cape Kolka swallowed by a storm at 2 a.m.

We roll out of Riga—sleep-deprived, and immediately trapped in Latvian traffic—then rejoin the growing Gumbalkan crowd at a busy roadside pit stop. More stickers, more stories, and a line of Volvos that makes our 1 000 € V70 feel right at home.

From there, the day splits in two: a shaky view tower swaying in the wind, and then an “extra” checkpoint that turns into a full-on rope/obstacle course in the rain. Scraped hands, burning forearms — proof that Gumbalkan isn’t just about driving.

We cool down at a quiet forest spring and boardwalk, visit the most amazing natural bog at the Kemeri natural park, then chase the coast through a wall of weather toward Cape Kolka. Night, spray, and sideways rain erase the horizon; we find the checkpoint by feel more than sight. Somewhere between lightning flashes, a huge beetle tries to join the crew. We must share pálinka with new, and save old friends from the blizzard, and the Volvo goes wild on a bumpy road with deer and wild boars on both sides.

A note for fellow travelers: do not take back-road near the Salaspils Memorial—locals warned us it can lead to trouble. Respect the places you visit; the road will always give you another route.
