The Futa Pass in Italy during WW2 was heavily defended by the Germans.
As part of the Gothic Line, it was one of the most heavily defended parts of the line. Now it is home to the Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof, the German War Cemetery.
The cemetery is the final resting place of over 30,000 German soldiers who fought and died in Italy during WW2. It does not celebrate their war but instead strives to remember the cost of the conflict.
