I only have to see Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis's name on an album and I get excited. I just know I'm going to be treated to some of the most distinctive, 'bluesy,' groove driven saxophone playing there is and there are so many of his licks that work on harmonica. The one I have chosen comes from the song 'I'm Free' by Mildred Anderson. Its from the album 'Person to Person,' which is one of my all time favourites. Here a link to the whole album:

I recommend you listen to all of it. The groove of the band is fabulous and 'Lockjaw' plus hammond organist Shirley Scott serve up the most sensational solos. I'm Free starts at 2.44 minutes. 'Lockjaw's' first solo comes in at 5.22 and the riff is at 5.35 minutes.

• Blues Backing Track Jam - Ice B.- Chicago ...
Then I transpose it again to F (Bb harmonica) and show you how it can fit into a fast 'jazzy' blues:
• Blues Backing Track Jam - Ice B. - Fast Ja...
There are so many licks you can learn from this album. It makes a great study tool for working on phrasing, full step and half step bent notes and much much more.
I hope you find the video useful and that it inspires you to check out the great Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis some more.
Best wishes,
Ricky
