Exploring Gaspé Peninsula in the 4runner

Описание: Leaving from the Toronto area, I took upon a 2000km road trip journey to explore and complete the Gaspé Peninsula coast. Each night, I found a new spot to camp and slept in a roof top tent rigged on a 4th gen 4runner. The Gaspésie region consists of many famous Atlantic Salmon rivers that are situated amongst the eastern mountains providing a unique tint of crystal clear water.

The search for Atlantics proved to be tough, the rivers I had obtained access rights for seemed to be unfortunately empty. The weather here in July was hot and dry, providing very low and clear conditions for most rivers. The Grand Cascapédi did seem to be popular and would probably be worthwhile if your able to get rights to fish that river at this time period (Late July). Later I spent more time exploring the coast and estuaries search for stripers. Some of the fish I hooked into here where huge, although I lacked video footage of this. Many smaller 3-4lb stripers were caught and presented some fun on the fly rod.

Near the end of the trip, I looked into some of the trail systems for biking in the area to get my adrenaline fix. I spent a couple days riding Mont-Béchervaise conveniently located outside the town of Gaspé. With around 300-400m vertical climb on this hill, it was physically demanding in hot July weather, but certainly worth it after embarking down some prime flow trails down the mountain.

If looking for Atlantics, I would recommend going earlier here around May-June. Striper fishing seemed prime and hot, using swimbaits or large streamers on the fly seemed popular. Time of day (tidal) was important, fishing would change quick. Larger gear is wise, I saw many fish +10lbs.
