In partnership with First Ascent Design, Hannah Boles, and Pauline Himics, I had the opportunity to help bring this story to life for the Delaware Arts Alliance during their State of Create Campaign.
This video explores Citizen Artist, an upcoming 2026 exhibition at the Delaware Art Museum that looks to the past to reimagine how public investment can support artists as workers today. From Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal programs to the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) of the 1970s, the exhibition examines a pivotal moment in American history when artists were employed to serve their communities.
Through conversations with Margaret Winslow, Morris Brown II, Flash Rosenberg, and Neil Kirschling, this piece reflects on how public funding shaped artistic careers, strengthened communities, and reframed creative labor as essential work. It also connects those historic efforts to Delaware’s CREATE Plan and ongoing conversations about building a sustainable creative economy.
I'm grateful to have collaborated with such an amazing team to produce this video for DAA.
