FOOD for THOUGHT
A long time ago I was in a yoga therapy workshop w Timothy Mc Call who authored the classic "Yoga as Medicine" and as we were discussing the negatives and positives of Western medicine, his statement that "yoga is slow medicine but it's strong medicine"... really stuck w me through the years. Especially since we live in a constant state of .... what's next? We move from one thing to another at an alarming rate and there's a price that we pay. We want quick and fast answers, results and solutions, as quickly as things seem to get solved more problems arise and we feel we are running a losing race. And we are. What would happen if you consciously decided to step off the hamster wheel and not fight for the next thing? See what life kind of figures out for you instead.
A mind that is resilient and at peace is the result most of us have in mind when we start out on this path of yoga but often the effort to look for that peace does quite the opposite. It's not that the peace "comes in" or that we "create" or "manufacture" peace - it's just that everything else (the restlessness, agitation, expectation, reactivity) leaves, like a dense cloud lifting revealing the beautiful blue expanse of sky that always was there. Peace is always there, even amidst our pains and struggles. The peace is where we are held and what we are restored to.
