In this video you can discover how to make a medieval paternoster, inspired by those found in the wreck of the Mary Rose or in the sculpture of Sant Jaume from the Jonqueres Monastery in Barcelona created in the 16th century.
Although the history of the rosary is much older, it became popular in the 13th century in opposition to the Cathar movement. The Count of Barcelona had defended the Albigenses since they were his subjects.
This specimen is made of Boxwood, like those found in the Mary Rose. It is still curious that at the time of Henry VIII the sailors of the king's flagship wore Catholic symbols.
