4 exercises to help your horse accept sitting trot in real-life young horse dressage training!

Описание: Ever felt like your horse is tense about your sitting trot? That he wants you to go rising or posting again? That he is confused whether you want canter or to walk? As if everything is going OK until you try to sit?

One of the things that I believe often gets neglected when teaching the rider's position is the part of the horse in accepting the contact of the rider's seat in sitting trot. Some of the Masters even went as far as to say that 50% of the rider's seat comes from the horse allowing them to sit correctly. It's a bit of a chicken and egg situation, the horse needs to allow the rider to sit and the rider needs to be balanced and supple in the saddle for the horse to stay open and swinging in the back.

Here are my 4 tried and tested, go-to exercises for helping the horse to accept and understand sitting trot better. And even better, I'm showing them to you with my very green, 5 year old Nardando so you can see exactly how a young horse will react.

There are moments of tension, confusion, loss of balance and a whole lot of stretching and relaxing between for him to process the exercises. This is normal. This is what happens when you're introducing new things to genuine baby horses.

Of course, I could have shown the exercises on a very established horse like my advanced horse Fairuza but it wouldn't show you so much as these patterns have already worked their magic and she stays relaxed and swinging whether I'm butt-in or butt-out the saddle!
