Vegan recipe for biscuits and gravy
Ingredients
Biscuits:
2 cup all purpose flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
2 Tbsp vegan butter
2 Tbsp vegetable shortening
1 cup non dairy milk (unsweetened)
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
Gravy:
avocado oil (or any oil such as olive oil)
14 oz vegan sausage
1/4 cup flour
2 cup non dairy milk (unsweetened)
salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F
Combine milk and apple cider vinegar and set aside for 10 minutes (makes buttermilk)
In a large bowl mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. With hands, add in vegan butter and shortening.
Add in buttermilk and stir or use hands to combine.
Sprinkle flour onto counter and use hands to spread dough to about 1 inch thick.
Cut out biscuits and rework dough until all is used.
Place on lightly greased baking sheet and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until golden brown.
While biscuits are baking heat a pan to medium heat.
Combine milk and flour in a bowl and set aside.
Drizzle oil into pan and add sausage. Cook until browned.
Pour in milk/flour mixture and cook until it thickens. (You can add more milk if it is too thick)
Salt and pepper to taste.
Place biscuit on plate and pour gravy over the top.
