Keeping your kettlebells handles free from rust is really important so you can train and focus on improving your strength and endurance rather than focusing on the pain of a ripped hand. You only need a sand paper to clear up most of the rust and keep your handles smooth. Still, even with smooth handles, if you're not gripping the kettlebells correctly, you still run the risk of injuring your hands and tearing them up.
