The wreck of the Baron Gautsch in Croatia, also known as the Titanic of the Adriatic, is probably the most famous wreck of the Adriatic sea. It was an Austro-Hungarian luxury passenger ship, launched in 1908, and later, during the First World War, used for transporting troops. And just during the First World War, on 13 August 1914, during a trip to Trieste, it ended up in a mined sea area near Rovinj, was hit by a mine and sank in few minutes. About 130 passengers died. Now it lies at a depth of 40 meters, in navigation trim. The structure is well preserved and the upper decks can be easily penetrated. It is highly concreted, covered with flora and fauna typical of the north Adriatic: corals, sponges and molluscs color the hull, while schools of damselfish and blue fish surround it completely. And unfortunately you can also find some abandoned fishing net...
