The Guildhall is the historic ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London, serving as the headquarters of the City of London Corporation. This Grade I-listed building has been the seat of city government since the Middle Ages. The Great Hall of current Guildhall was built between 1411 and 1440. It stands on a site with a much longer history, dating back to the Roman era when it was the location of London's amphitheatre, the remains of which are now displayed in the basement of the adjacent Guildhall Art Gallery. The building has witnessed many significant historical events, including the trials of notable figures like Lady Jane Grey and Archbishop Thomas Cranmer. Despite suffering damage in the Great Fire of London in 1666 and again during the Blitz in 1940, the hall has been carefully restored each time.

The Guildhall is the third largest civic hall in England. Key features inside the Great Hall include:
· Monuments to National Heroes: Statues and memorials to figures such as Winston Churchill, Admiral Nelson, and the Duke of Wellington.
· Gog and Magog: Carved statues of the mythical giants who are the traditional guardians of London.
· Stained Glass Windows: Post-war windows that list the names of centuries of Lord Mayors and the reigning monarchs.

Today, the Guildhall remains a working government building and a venue for major ceremonial occasions, most notably the annual Lord Mayor's Banquet. The complex also includes the Guildhall Art Gallery, which houses the City of London's art collection; the Guildhall Library, a public reference library with extensive historical collections on London; St Lawrence Jewry which serves as the Guild Church and the London Centre with a gallery which showcases two scale models of London that serve as a useful tool for understanding the transformation of the city.
