Have you ever had one of those experiences when you thought you had it all sorted, then life chucks you something that completely dismantles your reality? We’ve all been there to varying degrees, haven’t we? It can be devastating – causing great despair or creating a huge void in one’s life.
What can make it worse is if we have become heavily attached to and reliant on the identity that is broken down by a strike from life – living through it and reinforcing in our actions, attitudes and behaviours. We may have created one or more of our own identities, or we may have adopted them from the beliefs and opinions of others.
‘Challenge Your Identity’ is about becoming aware of our identities, understanding how they impact our lives, then becoming less defined by them so that we can live a life of greater freedom and fluidity.
SPEAKER BIOG:
Since his time as a Paratrooper in the Royal Engineers during his early twenties, Kevin has had strong desire for personal growth and a curiosity for what makes effective leadership. Over the past twenty years, he has experienced some great successes and challenging failures – then taken the lessons from these to help others in finding success on their terms.
Kevin has a niche speciality within the construction industry – helping organisations, managers and operatives become more technically competent, as well as improving their effectiveness as a leader.
Away from work, Kevin is a father to four sons, aspiring mountain leader and has been a successful competitor in martial arts. For me, life is about synergising – taking all of the different elements, people and places, and putting them together to create something that is immeasurably more fulfilling and wonderful than it would be if focusing on the individual parts.
I am an entrepreneur, professional coach and trainer, Tae Kwon Do practitioner, family man, music fan, constant seeker of a better self, and crane operator.
Born and raised in Arbroath, a small fishing town on the East coast of Scotland, I left school at 16 with little to show for it. After spending two years as an apprentice joiner, and realising that dovetail joints and I were not really compatible, I joined the British Army as an 18-year-old. Once my initial eighteen months of basic and trade training were out of the way, I successfully completed P Company to become an Airborne soldier with 9 Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
