The Department of Art and Art History trains its students to become future artists, scholars and educators. What our program offers you is the chance to learn the tenets of the field: observing, investigating, responding to the world around you in ways that produce context, meaning, and expression. You can expect this program to be excellent, to be rigorous, but most of all to be nurturing.

Our programs are built on the contemporary need for cross-disciplinary learning and collaboration, activating a community of curious thinkers and tinkerers that can take full advantage of all that a tier one research university and award-winning faculty has to offer. With over 70 exhibitions and lectures each year, we connect our students to nationally and internationally known artists, alumni and scholars, opening the door to an international network of study abroad, research and internship opportunities. We do all this in a faculty-to-student ratio of 1:10, at a fraction of the cost of our competitors.
