Boca do Inferno, meaning “Mouth of Hell,” is a dramatic natural cliff formation just outside the town of Cascais, Portugal.
Carved over centuries by the relentless force of the Atlantic Ocean, its jagged rocks form a cavern where powerful waves crash and explode, sending spray high into the air.
During storms, the sound of the sea roaring through the rocks is thunderous, earning the site its ominous name.
Surrounded by rugged cliffs and open ocean, Boca do Inferno is especially striking at sunset, when golden light reflects off the stone and the water below churns in deep blues and greens.
