The Falls of Dochart and Glenfinnan

Описание: On our journey up to Fort William we stayed one night in Falkirk and the next morning stopped for a short time at the beautiful Falls of Dochart situated on the River Dochart at the small town of Killin at the end of Loch Tay in the Trossachs National Park. The famous white waters of the Falls of Dochart are worth seeing while passing through and can be viewed from the village bridge.

The first day of our holiday at Fort William we decided go to Glenfinnan. Since 1938, the Glenfinnan Monument has been in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. The Trust constructed a visitor centre, providing tickets, information, exhibitions, a shop, cafe, and toilets. From the visitor centre car park the Jacobite Steam Train can be seen crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct. I would like to have got some footage of that but there was a train drivers strike that day so no trains were running. I am lucky that we travelled on that steam train twice from Fort William to Mallaig and back, also done the journey by car few years ago.

Glenfinnan Monument was erected in 1815, in tribute to the Jacobite clansmen who fought and died in the cause of Prince Charles Edward Stuart. It was designed by eminent Scottish architect, James Gillespie Graham. The raising of the Prince's Standard took place at the head of Loch Shiel on 19 August 1745.
