Fresh Snowfall Boosts Winter Sports as 7-Day Ski Course Begins in Drass
Ladakh, as fresh snowfall continues across Kargil since morning and snow activity intensifies in Drass—known as the world’s second coldest inhabited place—a 7-day Snow Ski Course has commenced at the KBS Ski Slope, Drass.
The course is being organized by the Ski and Snowboard Association Drass (SSAD) in collaboration with the Ladakh Ski and Snowboard Association, with active support from the Drass Administration and the Indian Army.
A total of 25 participants from different parts of Ladakh, along with a few trainees from outside the region, are taking part in the training programme. The initiative aims to enhance skiing skills, promote winter sports, and nurture local talent in high-altitude snow conditions.
The course is being conducted under the guidance of experienced coaches Sadiq Skier and Manzoor Hussain, who are providing professional training to the participants.
The Ski and Snowboard Association Drass has been regularly organizing such ski courses over the past few years as part of its sustained efforts to project Drass as an emerging snow ski destination.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Murtaza Agha, Founding Member and Organizer of SSAD, expressed optimism about the region’s future in winter sports. He stated that Drass has immense potential to host national-level snow ski events, provided adequate infrastructure is developed. He added that such initiatives would not only strengthen sports culture but also give a significant boost to winter tourism in the region.
