雄鳥繁殖羽時頭、頸、胸、脇栗褐色，頭頂至後頸有暗褐色縱紋；背黑褐色，羽緣栗紅色，腰淡褐色，有褐色縱斑，翼覆羽暗褐色，內側覆羽白色，尾上覆羽淡褐色，具褐色橫斑；頰、頸側、頸下至胸、上腹褐色，下腹白色，兩側具暗褐色橫斑。非繁殖羽頭、頸淡褐色，有暗褐色縱紋；眉線、頰白色，過眼線黑褐色；背灰褐色，羽緣白色；胸、腹、尾下覆羽白色，胸有黑褐色縱紋。
雌鳥似雄鳥，但繁殖羽之栗褐色較淡，並雜有白色斑紋。非繁殖羽眉線色淡，背面深褐色，胸淡褐色，腹白色。
幼鳥似雄鳥非繁殖羽，但背面羽緣黃褐色，胸淺黃褐色。
分布：
繁殖於西伯利亞、蒙古、中國東北部；冬季遷徙至印度、東亞、東南亞、印尼、澳大利亞北部。

Feature:
Body length 33-36 cm. Iris dark brown. Bill black, long and straight, bill base swollen. Legs greyish-black, with semi-webbed toes.
In breeding plumage, the male has a chestnut-brown head, neck, breast, and flanks, with dark brown longitudinal stripes from the crown to the nape; back blackish-brown with chestnut-red feather edges; rump pale brown with brown longitudinal stripes; wing coverts dark brown, inner wing coverts white; upper tail coverts pale brown with brown transverse stripes; cheeks, sides of the neck, lower neck to the breast and upper abdomen brown; lower abdomen white with dark brown transverse stripes on both sides. In non-breeding plumage, the head and neck are pale brown with dark brown longitudinal stripes; supercilium and cheeks white, eye stripe blackish-brown; back greyish-brown with white feather edges; breast, abdomen, and undertail coverts white, breast with blackish-brown longitudinal stripes. The female resembles the male, but her breeding plumage is paler chestnut-brown with white markings. In non-breeding plumage, the supercilium is pale, the back is dark brown, the breast is pale brown, and the belly is white.
Juveniles resemble the male in non-breeding plumage, but the back feather edges are yellowish-brown, and the breast is pale yellowish-brown.
Distribution:
Breeds in Siberia, Mongolia, and northeastern China; winters in India, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and northern Australia.
