Kuta, Bali.
Thurday, 5 March 2026.
Recently, extreme weather has been affecting Bali Island. Today we’re in Kuta to document the atmosphere around this well-known tourism area during these unusual conditions.
Strong winds — sometimes accompanied by heavy rain — have been sweeping across the island. According to the forecast, this extreme weather is expected to ease around 8 March 2026. If you’re currently in Bali, it’s best to stay alert and take extra care when heading out.
We began our walk at Kuta Beach. Powerful gusts of wind were blowing straight in from the ocean. Despite the rough conditions, a few tourists could still be seen enjoying the beach atmosphere.
However, the condition of Kuta Beach itself is becoming increasingly concerning. The shoreline appears to be shrinking as coastal erosion continues, and scattered rubbish can be seen along the sand. Considering that Kuta Beach is one of Bali’s most legendary tourist destinations, serious conservation efforts may be needed to preserve it for the future.
From the beach, we made our way out to Pantai Kuta Street. Even with the strong winds, some tourists were still walking along the street — likely heading out to find dinner.
Next, we turned right onto Bakungsari Street. As usual, this road was packed with traffic, though only a few tourists were passing through the area.
We then reached Kartika Plaza Street, another iconic road in Kuta. While the tourism activity here isn’t quite like it was in its peak years, the area still shows signs of life. Some visitors were enjoying late afternoon meals at restaurants along the street, often while watching live sports.
Continuing on, we arrived at Discovery Mall. A number of tourists had gathered at the mall’s beachfront area to watch the daily Kecak dance performance, which usually starts around 6pm.
From there, we walked past Kuta Art Market Road. On ceremonial days, Balinese locals often hold traditional rituals near the beach along this road. On normal days, the area is mostly used by people passing through or exercising.
We kept walking until we reached another stretch of Kuta Beach. By this point, the wind had grown even stronger. Sand was being blown across the beach, hitting us as we walked. Some tourists quickly rushed off to find shelter.
Interestingly, at a few of the small non-permanent beach bars, several international visitors were still sitting together in circles, chatting casually despite the extreme weather.
Eventually, we made our way back to the main entrance gate of Kuta Beach, where our walking tour came to an end.
