Alright yogis - today we're exploring Chakrasana, the dynamic 'roll-back' that acts as the exit from lying down positions such as Supta Padangusthasana, Setu Bandhasana, Urdhva Dhanurasana and others in the Ashtanga Yoga practice. This can be a really challenging movement for beginners and those experiencing discomfort in the neck, shoulders or upper back, and it can be safer to avoid altogether when experiencing pain or injury - however it holds a valuable place in the Ashtanga sequence, and does maintain the flow of the sequence, build core strength, and can act as an effective counter-pose after backbending postures. Ultimately, learning to execute this vinyasa with confidence, dynamism and precision is as rewarding as learning any of the asanas in the sequence - it's the journey that makes it rewarding - and honouring each movement with mindful, diligent practice is a core component of the practice we do.
